“The metaverse exists. The most-common definitions of the ‘metaverse’ are: 1) an embodied virtual-reality experience; 2) a Web3 framework for economic interoperability; 3) a creative platform for experiences (e.g., Roblox). “

CYBER podcast Jun 28

This week on Cyber we’re going to look at one small piece of all this: tech, data, and censorship. With me today is Motherboard Senior Editor Samantha Cole. She’s been working on a number of stories about period tracking apps and data and she’s here to walk us through how the Roe decision is not just a blow against bodily autonomy, but also against privacy.
Stories in this episode:The #1 Period Tracker on the App Store Will Hand Over Data Without a Warrant
Here’s What Period Tracking Apps Say They Do With Your Data

Which sort of feeds my theory about like, the qantum nature of culture. Ie we make it and consume it and when we try to observe or measure it it evolves and both it and us are changed as a result so there are no permanent Laws apart from the law that everything will eventually change.

Could we persuade the organisers of Burning Man https://burningman.org/ to occupy/take over a refugee camp on the Mexican/US border (eg the Tijuana camp reported on in this story  https://www.thisamericanlife.org/770/my-lying-eyes/act-two-8 ) and instigate an intentional community (including security/defence and bureaucratic assistance with asylum applications/education/language support) on hybrid gift-economy/social entrepreneurship principles?

” The dominant themes in the music are motherhood (loss of a son), despair and suffering. [.]
A solo soprano sings Polish texts in each of the three movements.[3] The first is a 15th-century Polish lament of Mary, mother of Jesus; the second a message written on the wall of a Gestapo cell during World War II; and the third a Silesian folk song of a mother searching for her son killed by the Germans in the Silesian uprisings.[4] The first and third movements are written from the perspective of a parent who has lost a child, and the second movement from that of a child separated from a parent. “

O sing for him / God’s little song-birds / Since his mother cannot find him.
And you, God’s little flowers / May you blossom all around / that my son may sleep a happy sleep.[20]

and I have been investigating the potential of developing the live music aspect of such a performance event, as well as evaluating the ethics and prudential issues relating to creating a project design in accordance with Effective Altruism principles https://www.effectivealtruism.org/. We would like to approach music venues like Electrowerkz https://www.electrowerkz.co.uk/hire-electrowerkz.html, Koko https://www.koko.co.uk/, Hoxton Docks https://www.hoxtondocks.com/ for this activation.
Check out this clip from Twigs’ 2019 interview during her preparation for her Magdalene album tour, in which she discusses the socialisation she feels affected her attitude to womanhood, and her hope that future generations of women might not feel the negative effects that she has experienced due to the potential for social media to create new spaces and directions for discussions about gender.

Dance Film / Metaversing
Take a look at some of the links below for examples of the kind of work FKA Twigs does that I find interesting and I feel could be a model for the kind of filmmaking that I could see incorporating more conventional ballet choreography. I imagine the choreography could be enhanced by the use of film and VR effects in transposing it into digital content, or by experiential or participatory aspects in a live performance format.
